JDMmotorsports Supra Gallery
Overview
Hi I'm Matt and this is my dream car. On this page is basically where you will find updates and information on what I've done to the Supra. I found this 5 speed naturally aspirated hardtop Supra after a few long months of looking and it was basically stock when I bought it. I acquired the car in July of 2004 and over the past few years have transformed it into what you see here. All work on the Supra has been done at JDMmotorsports.

I have big plans for this car in the future including autocrossing and showing.

Overall this car is my daily driver (not during winter), so with that in mind and the fact I want to track the car makes my power goals conservative at 400-450whp. The Supra currently has a PT61 single turbo conversion kit on it that should give me around 400+whp at 14-16psi of boost while still giving me a fairly decent power curve and fast spool. Please feel free to look through this and the other galleries on this site and I'll keep everyone posted on what is going on with my car.

Thanks for looking.
Matt

Recent News on the Supra
7/18/07 - This month I have the Supra back together fully, and finally tuned. The new MAPECU2 is a little tough to tune on an OBDI car, but right now it seems to be working quite well. The timing control is great and the car is stronger than it ever has been. I have no new plans for the car for the rest of the year. I just plan on enjoying the car and the great weather we are having lately in the North East. I will be attending a few shows throughout the summer so keep an eye out for me there.

6/1/07 - Well after about 2.5 weeks I finally go the Supra back together again. She is bigger and better then before. I had 2 cracked pistons and one that was a little deformed (too much timing), so I decided to upgrade to TT pistons to lower the compression and help out with a little more power down the road. The block and head are now 600whp capable and the only two things holding me back from that are the tranny and lack of timing control, So I'm just going to tune her for about 425-450 and enjoy the rest of the summer.

It took me quite a while to get the car running again as it was actually together in about 1 week, but I couldn't get it to start, which I found out was related to a bad fuel computer(VPC) that I just bought :(

After switching that out the car would start and run until warm then die. Tracked that down to the MAF (which the VPC would have replaced) was bad. So I just happened to have one laying around and put that in and the car is now running perfectly. Over the next 500 miles I will need to break in the new rings and seals so no playing around yet.

I also took the down time to repaint the motor and polish some more parts, so the motor is now flat black and polished aluminum, which looks quite stricking under the hood.

5/17/07 - Looks like the show season is a no go for the Supra this summer. Seems 115,000 miles and 16psi has a bad effect on old rings and seals. A leakdown test showed what seems to be a bad #2 cylinder. So the motor is now out of the car and awaiting a full teardown. I will be stripping the motor down to the bare block and giving it a refresh job. My initial thoughts are a broken ring as the car made a tapping noise for about 2 days then dumped it's oil out the exhaust. But I'll know more tonight when I tear the motor down.

The new plans for the car are sort of up in the air. Until I know the extent of the damage, I won't know what needs replaced. But the final results will be the same in any case. I plan on rebuilding the motor with an 8.5:1 CR and upping the boost to max the injectors (safely) at around 500-525whp. Then backing the tune down and creating a daily driving map on the SAFC @ about 400-425whp.

So check back as I will be posting picts of the rebuild (as I remember to take them). and doing periodic updates on the progress. My plans are to have the car running in about 2 weeks and tuned within a month (after the breakin process).

4/23/07 - Well the show and race season has started. And for me it has started quite well. I attended a local charity car show and the Supra took 1st in the import category. The next day I participated in my first ever autoX event and did very well considereing I'm still running stock suspension, no LSD, and all season tires on a 400+whp car. I started slowly running a 46.1 second lap time, but by the end of the event I was down to 38.9 seconds and pushing the car about as far as it will go on this suspension, good for 7th out of 27 in my class..

Up next for me is a cosmetic change and the addition of a VPC to eliminate the problems associated with running a MAF on an NA-T Supra. The cosmetic change will come in the effect of new sideskirts, made by Bomex, these skirts are much more subtle then the "Giant Ears" I have now (Veilside) and will be less likely to be destroyed as quickly as the Veilsides were by rocks and daily obstacles.

Dyno Information:
4/9/07 - The results were very good but actually could have been better. I hit 424whp/515tq. on a dynojet, with the dyno shutting off at 5000rpms due to my ignition being faulty beyond that point. The HP line was still rising on the graph at that point so there is still some power left to go!

So with that in mind with my plans for suspension and and LSD, I have upgraded the igniton with 2 step colder plugs and an HKS Twin Power Ignition system. That should take care of my problems in that area and give me all the power I need for a while anyways.

Here is a link to my dyno run.
